Horses are capable of allowing you to see a lot more of the area than you normally could on just a hike. There are several outfitters at many of the parks entrances that offer horse trips. There is a good ranch in Etna Wyoming and also horse riding in Teton village just outside of Teton National park. There are also at-least 2 outfitters in Gardiner MT at the North entrance to Yellowstone and several in town of West Yellowstone MT at the West entrance to the park.

Take a Rafting Trip

Rafting the Snake river near Jackson WyomingRafting in Yellowstone area is a very fun activity for the whole family. Each boat will be able to accommodate several rafters, and every boat will have it’s own river guide. The Snake river by Jackson hole is probably the most common area for rafting, but the North entrance also offers rafting trips on the Yellowstone river as well. Mid summer rafting is fairly easy going with only a few heavy whitewater areas. During the spring runoff is when things will be really exciting for rafters. You can always expect to get wet, so bring along an extra pair of clothing for after the trip.

Rafting trips are usually all inclusive. They will take you from their shop in a bus with rafts loaded on top. From there, you will drive to the river to begin your adventure.

The Jackson Hole rodeo is from May 28th – September 3rd on most Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer. (check the schedule here) I have been to both of these events and they are indeed worth the trip. They do a great job of keeping everyone of all ages entertained. The Cody rodeo’s take place every night in the summer, so if you are looking to get down cowboy style, check them out.
